Review of Strobeck's "KING PUPPY"

Story by Larry Lanza October 14th, 2016

William Strobeck once again films and edits a masterpiece for the Supreme and Nike skateboarding team. Strobeck has been in the skateboarding world since the early days at LOVE Park, but in the past few years his Supreme videos have been dominant in the skate world, like “Cherry,” “SWOOSH,” “JOYRIDE,” and “PUSSY GANGSTER.” In his newest film “KING PUPPY”, there is the normal cast of his Supreme skaters (Sean Pablo, Sage Essler, and Kevin Bradley). However, a few new faces made the cut and the biggest one was 2014 Skater of the Year, Grant Taylor.

There was a healthy mix of west coast and east coast footage, but it was clear the New York footage was one of a kind, as usual. The New York footage paired nicely with “Tonz ‘O‘ Gunz,” by Gangstarr. When Sage Essler dropped down the first six stair with speed, then popped a tweaked indy over the light post and down the next set at Veteran’s Memorial on Water St, in Manhattan, my jaw dropped. However, there is a great appreciation for the gnarly backside 180 nosegrind-switch- 180 out on a Cali picnic table, done by Vincent Touzery.

Eric Koston even made an appearance with one trick on the famous bank to ledge in the Bronx. Koston did an insanely clean front-180-switch-5-0. This got a funny rise out of pro-skate Ryan Gallant who had this to say.

Skate beef alert. This was 3 years ago.. I guess since its koston I'll let it slide though, but only this one time haha.

Strobeck allotted the final two minutes to Grant Taylor, and he didn’t disappoint. Taylor ripped apart the Supreme Bowl while Roy Orbison’s, Pretty Woman, covered by Van Halen played. This was unusual for Strobeck to put transition skating in one of his videos, but it did not matter. Any fan of skateboarding is fan of Strobeck and Taylor.

This video is one of many coming from the Supreme team in the recent years. These skates know how to rip, and they are being filmed by the best in the game.
